Probiotic mixture based on Lactobacillus kunkeei is able to improve honeybee health.

What is it about?

This work is about the isolation, characterisation, and selection of bacterial strains from honeybee guts, until obtaining a mixture of beneficial microorganisms that can diminish the infections caused by two pathogens (Paenibacillus larvae and Nosema ceranae) in laboratory conditions.

Why is it important?

This work is important because we find that the mixture of L. kunkeei isolates obtained from the bee midgut proved to be a beneficial microorganism’s mixture that exerts positive effects on larvae and adult bees under laboratory conditions.
