Calibration of electrical stimulation to produce selective functional hand movements

What is it about?

The design and proof of concept of a protocol for personalized calibration of electrical stimulation parameters and positions, to achieve selective, functional and comfortable movements of the hand

Why is it important?

Parameter selection and electrode positioning for upper limb FES therapy can be lenghty and produce suboptimal movements due to the nature of non-invasive FES and forearm anatomy. Previous solutions to this issue involved unsuitably large mapping procedures, additional measurement equipment and data analysis, and the need of personnel with technical expertise. This majes them too cumbersome for clinical settings. We proposed a complete protocol to calibrate parameters and positions to obtain upper limb movements along an observational procedure and scale for assessment of the hand movement quality.
