Single 1 g Ferric carboximaltose infusion is cheaper than five 200 mg Iron sucrose infusions

What is it about?

Ferric carboximaltose is approximately then times more expensive than ferric sucrose. It allows, however ,to infuse a much larger dose of iron (1000 vs 200 mg) in a single administration. We showed that savings in direct and indirect costs of five infusions largely overcome the increase in the cost of the drug.

Why is it important?

Suggest that ferric carboximaltose is not only more convenient for patients but also globally cheaper that Iron sucrose.
