Recommendations on how to coordinate the population and the agricultural censuses

What is it about?

The population and agricultural censuses are highly expensive operations and many countries find it difficult to conduct them in the internationally recommended time frame of ten years. This is particularly true for the census of agriculture, which is conducted with very irregular frequency (or not at all) in many developing countries. This paper provides an overview of economic and technical advantages and challenges of linking the two censuses and present some country examples.

Why is it important?

Linking the two censuses may result in economic and technical advantages and contributes to more integration in the national statistical system.
