The influence of the built environment on adverse birth outcomes

What is it about?

In this review, we synthesize the literature on the impact of roadways, greenness, power plants, gas stations/wells, waste management, power lines, neighborhood conditions, food environment, and industry on adverse birth outcomes.

Why is it important?

We examine multiple indicators of the built environment on adverse birth outcomes. We show that high traffic exposure has a small to moderate association with adverse birth outcomes in 71% of the studies which examined this relationship.
