Prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Norway

What is it about?

The publication gives updated prevalence for dementia and MCI, as well as subtypes of dementia in Norway based on personal examination of 10.000 people 70 years of age in the HUNT study. It also provides future projections of the number of people with dementia in Norway in 2050 and 2100.

Why is it important?

This is one of the largest population-based studies on dementia worldwide. Recently, there has been rather few large prevalence studies in high-income countries. Regular update on the epidemiology of dementia is vital for health care planning.
