Perceived stress increases Alzheimer's disease risk in African Americans

What is it about?

Biomarkers indicate what is happening inside a living body. Beta-amyloid and tau, proteins found in cerebrospinal fluid, are important biomarkers markers of Alzheimer's disease. We show a relationship between higher perceived stress scores and beta-amyloid and tau in African Americans with evidence of cognitive impairment.

Why is it important?

Previous research demonstrates a relationship between perceived stress and cognitive testing in African Americans with cognitive impairment. This study builds on that work and establishes biomarker evidence to support it.
