How can university libraries increase their capability to innovate?

What is it about?

We have investigated how university libraries in Indonesian state-owned higher education institutions are coping with the dynamic nature of innovation. Using grounded theory, we explored the practices that these libraries adopt to develop their innovation capabilities. You will find a novel framework that accounts for the non-profit nature of university libraries and a new variable called relationship-based leadership which play a critical role in facilitating innovation. This research is the first to map out the innovation processes of university libraries, providing a comprehensive view of their progress.

Why is it important?

Firstly, as innovation is crucial to managing and leading in today's dynamic environment, understanding how university libraries are developing their innovation capabilities can increase the chances of success and avoid potential pitfalls. Secondly, this research adds a new perspective to innovation capability research by focusing on non-profit organizations, specifically state-owned university libraries in Indonesian. It also provides a new framework, variable called relationship-based leadership and highlights unique challenges and opportunities faced by them. Academicians and practitioners in library management sector might apply the findings for their own benefits.
