Bone healing made visible

What is it about?

With the in vivo and ex vivo small animal imaging approach presented here, it is possible to investigate essential hallmarks of the bone healing process in experimental models. This particularly concerns inflammation and innate immune response in the early stage, the formation of cartilaginous/osseous callus and its progressing mineralization in the anabolic stage as well as angiogenesis and the formation of secondary bone with regeneration of the original structural features in the catabolic stage.
