A new protein standard for small angle scattering

What is it about?

Proteins such as bovine serum album and glucose isomerase are commonly used as small angle scattering protein size standards. EAch have specific problems. This paper describes the development of a new protein standard for small angle scattering experiments, specifically monomeric green fluorescent protein. The protein is an adaption of green fluorescent protein, which is essentially monomeric at SAS concentrations. The protein is characterised using small angle neutron and x-ray scattering and analytical ultracentrifugation.

Why is it important?

The standardization of protein small angle scattering experiments and results is becoming increasing important, as the instrumentation, hardware and software develop.
