Framing Ontology Distinctions

What is it about?

Understanding different types and styles of ontology within a broader framework. The framework takes into account distinctions between applied ontology best practice and Semantic Web OWL ontologies in various flavors. The framework addresses questions of ontological commitment, stance, modeling styles and the relationship between ontological representations of things in the world and data.

Why is it important?

This work aims to create a much needed bridge between different schools of thought in ontology. The aim is to give industry practitioners a practical engineering framework that collates much of the academic work in this area in an accessible framework.
