Humor and sublimation are two mature coping mechanisms that help the individual to face reality and to cope with the vicissitudes of everyday life constructively. This article shows how a Cuban writer combined these two coping mechanisms in order to produce a creative and funny work of art in his novel, The Color of Summer.
