What is it about?
A literary interpretation and comparison of three international punk songs dealing with crisis. "Literary" means that the songs are treated as poetry, with focus on the lyrics. Through the three examples by Poison Girls (UK), Berlinski zid (Slovenia, Yugoslavia), and Franti (Italy) It tries to understand different artistic and cultural ways of coping with crisis situations offered by (these) radical punk artists.
Why is it important?
With a focus on song lyrics, it explores radical artistic and cultural ways of coping with both personal and public crisis situations. it is also a practical example of the possibility to understand, observe and interpret punk as a (literary) avant-garde of pop culture. The article contributes to punk and pop-culture studies from a literary point of view, it expands literary studies to the field of pop culture, and it also contributes to the anarchist and radical field of literary and cultural studies.
