Representations of gender, feminism, voice and sound in contemporary Spanish television/streaming

What is it about?

This paper analyses ways in which voice and sound are important expressions of gender and feminism in contemporary Spanish television and streaming. I analyse two case studies, La casa de papel [Money Heist] and Vis a vis [Locked Up], taking into account their use of voice and sound, with particular emphasis on voiceover and music.

Why is it important?

My analysis of the voice in both sonic and symbolic terms is important within the landscape of contemporary feminism. It offers a reflection on the role of the voice and of speaking up as a feminist voice and analyses this within the sphere of Spanish television/streaming. This contributes to, and expands, the fields of media studies more broadly, which tends to focus on anglophone contexts.
