Visual Journals in Teacher Education and Arts-Based Research

What is it about?

Visual journals have been increasingly used in art teacher preparation and in arts-based research. This article describes a re-search study in which I sought to better understand the connections between how I used my visual journal to enhance my arts-based research process and how my preservice art teachers used their visual journals to enhance their development as future art teachers. My findings reveal three visual journaling strategies that can be used in art teacher preparation and arts-based research.

Why is it important?

The strategies discussed in this article demonstrate how visual journaling can support dialogue, creative inquiry and knowledge generation in art education research and art teacher preparation courses.
