Translation and understandings of drama education in China

What is it about?

Translation is not only converting language. It also involves communication between the cultures, traditions, and histories involved. This study explores how different key terms in the drama education field were translated and how they inform mis/xunderstandings of drama education in China. 26 seminal books were analysed.

Why is it important?

As a new phenomenon in China, drama education is receiving increasing attention nationally and internationally. We bring the Chinese perspective of drama and theatre into a discussion around key concepts in western-oriented drama education, expanding the references to drama education and its relevant praxis in the 21st century. This study helps to extend the understanding of drama education in a global context and thus contributes to effective intercultural dialogue.
