The Invisibility Cloak: Narrative From an Asian American Woman Physician-in-Training

What is it about?

It speaks about the racism that Asian Americans experience - the detrimental devaluation others have of us - as importantly, the detrimental effects of the devaluation we have of ourselves (constant and insidious in ways that even we have a hard time noticing). One of the effects is the separation of the Asian American community in order to survive, resulting in our tremendous loneliness. Another is further silencing of ourselves and our community, an oppressive result of systemic racism.

Why is it important?

Anti-racism work is critical in today’s world. Medicine has evolved to acknowledge and include the responsibility it bears to all communities, especially communities of color. A lived experience insight is essential to this.
