What is it about?

Suicide is a leading cause of death and a recent report encouraged use of Caring Letters in a variety of settings, including following crisis line calls. Caring Letters is a suicide prevention intervention that consists of sending brief, caring messages to those at risk of suicide. To enhance suicide prevention efforts for veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs created a Caring Letters project for veterans who call the Veterans Crisis Line. The evaluation of this project included interviews with veterans who had received the letters. Veterans reported that the Caring Letters had a positive impact on them and provided suggestions for improvement.
