Better IPS outcomes are associated with staff time in the community

What is it about?

The world has changed since IPS was developed over three decades ago, with online employment applications, remote interviews, and employment apps now in common use. Despite these changes, the IPS emphasis on staff spending time in the community - meeting with potential employers and providing ongoing support - continues to be relevant. This study, conducted prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, found that the amount of time staff spent in the community was significantly and positively associated with better employment outcomes.

Why is it important?

As IPS implementation sites find themselves with many competing demands on staff time, it can be easy to abandon staff time in the community, especially given online resources now available. Results of this study argue against such a decision.
