Clinical Interview for Military & Veteran Patients

What is it about?

This paper proposes questions that can integrated into a routine clinical evaluation to help better understand how military and veteran culture might be impacting illness or treatment. The paper also outlines the aspects of military and veteran culture that have been found to impact clinical care.

Why is it important?

1. The military is a unique group that would benefit from clinical interviews that explore military culture 2. The DSM5’s Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) does not comprehensively explore all aspects of military culture 3. This “military version of the CFI” could provide a superior method for exploring military culture in clinical settings. 4. The methods in this paper also provide a mechanism for other groups to explore the applicability of the CFI.
