Family support services that are provided by non-professionals with lived experience parenting a child with mental health concerns may be a way to increase engagement with youth mental health services. This study tested whether a course called NAMI Basics led by trained peers who had previously parented a child with mental health concerns was helpful for caregivers with a child currently experiencing mental health concerns. Compared to caregivers who didn't take the NAMI Basics course, caregivers who took the course reported that they felt more prepared to engage in mental health services on behalf of their child, intended to seek services, and that their children became less distressed.
