What is it about?

The criminalization of those with severe mental illness is a problem with mental health, public health, criminal legal and broader societal implications. In order for the healthcare system to better serve those with severe mental illness and divert people from and help them stay out of the criminal legal system, substantial healthcare reform is needed. This can start with changes at the federal policy level, which are discussed in this paper.
