Psychiatric co-morbidities in early and middle stage FXTAS

What is it about?

This is a study of psychiatric co-morbidities in the Fragile X-associated tremor-ataxia syndrome (FXTAS), an illness specific to the premutation carriers of Fragile X. These patients have characteristic neuropsychiatric findings that progress over time.

Why is it important?

FXTAS patients often manifest a frontal-subcortical dementia plus other psychiatric co-morbidity. FXTAS should be considered as a diagnosis in dementia with a movement disorder in patients with other Fragile X illnesses in their pedigree.
