Practical detection of delirium, dementia and depression at the hospital

What is it about?

This study describes the characteristics for delirium vs nondelirium patients with or without comorbid depression, dementia or both (the 3Ds, common in patients admitted to general hospitals). We used validated tools easily administered. The group with the 3Ds together was the most common delirium group, suggesting dementia and depression are worthy of attention in them. Depression is a treatable risk factor for delirium

Why is it important?

Many times only dementia, and not depression, is considered in the field of delirium. Unlike dementia, depression is very treatable and represents a modifiable risk factor for delirium
