What is it about?

Preclinical forms of late-onset Alzheimer´s disease (LOAD) have received relatively little attention even though LOAD represents over 99% of cases of Alzheimer´s disease. The authors have used verbal learning and semantic interference cognitive tests along with MRI and amyloid PET scans to detect early LOAD phenotypes in cognitively normal, middle aged individuals with a family history of LOAD. They found that recovery from semantic interference was impaired in this group, and that this finding was related to cortical thickness and amyloid deposition alterations in AD-relevant areas.
