Anti-racist practice in psychiatry: recommendations

What is it about?

Mental health disparities have been amplified in the COVID-19 pandemic in people from marginalized racial and ethnic groups. We describe how structural and individual racism has contributed to this disparity, and provide practical ways for clinicians to incorporate anti-racism into their daily practice.

Why is it important?

Little attention has been paid to the role of racism in creating and deepening mental health disparities for people from marginalized racial-ethnic groups. For real systemic change to occur, clinicians must acknowledge these dynamics, engage in regular self-reflection and and implement anti-racist practices.
