Reciprocal effects between negative parenting and children’s callous-unemotional traits

What is it about?

In a longitudinal analysis of 9,260 twin pairs, callous-unemotional (CU) traits were shown to be influenced by genetic factors and develop largely independently of negative parental discipline and feelings.

Why is it important?

Repeated intensive interventions addressing multiple risk factors, rather than parenting alone, may best support families of children with CU traits.
