What is it about?

Children of mothers with psychotic illness, and children who have been exposed to adverse obstetric environments are both known to be at increased risk of intellectual disability. However, children of mothers with psychotic illness are already more likely to be exposed to obstetric complications. In a population cohort, we show each risk is only partially attenuated in the presence of the other, implying independent effects and suggesting potentially different causal pathways.
