What is it about?

Different diagnostic methods for detecting Koi herpesvirus, the causative agent of the highly virulent and contagious Koi herpesvirus disease in Koi and common carp, have been developed but have been reported to differ in their sensitivity. In this study the sampling tissue type and sampling time point also affected the reliability of the diagnostic test. Non-lethal mucus samples also appear to provide a useful sample type for detecting the virus at very early stages post-infection in the absence of clinical disease with most of the molecular diagnostic methods tested.
