What is it about?

Telecare is widely used within the United Kingdom. However, although early studies of telecare’s impact were positive, later, much better designed research has concluded that does not lead to better outcomes, and is not cost-effective. These studies could not explain why this was so. This is a problem because UK Governments and local councils support its use, and so it is important to find out what might lead to improvements. This study asks academic experts in this field to say what they think would be needed for telecare to deliver the outcomes that everyone would like. Ten themes were identified from their responses. They were then asked to prioritise three. These themes offer new research questions which could help bridge the gaps between evidence, policy, and practice.
