What is it about?

The authors describe the preparation of this indanone-based chalcone using a solventless, green Claisen-Schmidt reaction. The product was then analyzed by single crystal X-ray crystallography and it was determined to have E-stereochemistry.

Why is it important?

This molecule has not been previously reported in the literature and is part of a larger study to assess E- to Z- isomerism in this family of chalcones.
