A derivative of 1,3-Indandione aldol condensation cyclization product crystal structure

What is it about?

One of the few examples of an eight memebered ring resulting from aldol condensation, showing the crystal structure and interactions within the crystalline lattice with co-crystallized acetonitrile molecules

Why is it important?

1,3-Indandione and related structures have been used for aldol condensation for many years, especially condensed cyclization products, some of which have been used as antiemetic and anticancer drugs.
