Molecular structure of an anticancer drug, Doxorubicin nitrate

What is it about?

Single crystals of the doxorubicin nitrate were grown and analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The molecular structure and spatial arrangement of atoms were then compared with doxorubicin bound to DNA and protein molecules.

Why is it important?

Conformational analysis is important in drug design -- they allow for deep understanding of how certain drugs work.
