Decarbonylation of N,N-dimethylformamide by the Zirconium(IV) Tsotsi

What is it about?

A Zirconium(IV) Tsotsi steals CO from N,N-dimethylformamide forming a dimethylammonium salt.

Why is it important?

Transition metal salts/complexes, in the presence of benzenepolycarboxylic acids, can initiate decarbonylation of N,N-dimethylformamide by slow evaporation.
