Tetrahydro-1-benzazepines with potential antiparasitic activity

What is it about?

The crystal structures of five new tetrahydro-1-benzazepines are described. From a crystallographic perspective, the work describes some peculiarities in the crystallization behavior of related structures due to modest changes in the peripheral substituents and the occurrence of discrete disorder due to molecular overlay of enantiomers with more than one conformation.

Why is it important?

Tetrahydro-1-benzazepines are of great interest for people working on antiparasitic drugs, specially in places like South and Central America, due to their potential use as drugs for the treatment of chagas disease and leishmaniasis. Considering the importance of the molecular structure in the biological responses, crystallography becomes an excellent mean to perform Rational Drug Design.
