The crystal structure of Thiophosgene

What is it about?

The article is about the solid state structure of thiophosgene, a small and highly reactive molecule. Additionally, its vibrational modes in the solid state have been elucidated. We found the molecule to be disordered which is particularly interesting, as we needed neutron diffraction to have a closer look.

Why is it important?

The packing of small molecules is of fundamental interest to understand intermolecular interactions. In this particular case, the molecule is disordered and we show that despite significant intermolecular interactions, no ordering is observed even at lowest temperatures.
