Synchrotron X-ray diffuse scattering from terephthalic acid, C8H6O4

What is it about?

We're looking at subtle details of the crystal structure to understand how molecules connect to each other and how these interactions lead to changes of structure. This is an example of a material that can form in different structures, and we're trying to model the X-ray scattering from the different structures.

Why is it important?

It's important because the information in the diffuse scattering (the broad features that occur throughout the X-ray scattering pattern) are usually ignored, and we believe they can contribute much to our understanding.
