A new photoelectron spectromicroscopy beamline is in operation

What is it about?

Using a low-energy electron microscope attached to the beamline, structural, magnetic and chemical information from the surface of a solid can be obtained with single-digit nanometer spatial resolution. A new class of phenomena can be studied with the new microscope since several nanometers are the scale which matches the size of technologically important quantum dots and templates, many vital bio-molecules, carbon nanotubes and enhanced catalytically active particles.

Why is it important?

The size of many technologically important samples is shrinking, which is why essential to have a tool following the development.
