cyclist-pedestrian interaction in or near cycle-lanes

What is it about?

Empirically examining, via naturalistic video data, the detail of cyclist-pedestrian interaction in or near cycle-lanes. Especially the role of looking/non-looking in orderly mobility in shared space.

Why is it important?

The research goes beyond the assumption that when pedestrians enter cycle-lane space they must look out for cyclists. Using the distinction between 'doing and being oblivious,' it is shown that pedestrians frequently do not look. Normally, this does not result in collisions, but clearly at times it may.
