The linguistic subordination of women

What is it about?

How language is used to put women in a secondary place, either explicitly or implicitly. The latter is a pervasive mode in the English language as it operates in subtly sexist ways. A contemporary example is the use of the word guy/s, which serves a double function, normally referring to men, but also being applied to women. Yet, this shows that women are subsumed within men.
