What is it about?
Harold Crane Fleming (1926-2015) was a professor of anthropology at Boston University, and a leader in understanding human prehistory by the application of the Four Fields of Archaeology, Linguistics, Physical Anthropology and Cultural anthropology. In this book articles were contributed by twenty-four other scholars in these fields. A bibliography of the work of Professor Fleming is also included.
Why is it important?
The peoples and languages of Africa, and particularly of Northeastern Africa, was a special focus of Harold C. Fleming's research, but he also emphasized the original unity of the human race and its origins in Africa and spread to the rest of the world. Contributors' articles explore the fine details and implications of this approach in the languages, cultures, and biological properties of humans in many parts of the world and diverse periods of human prehistory.
