Understanding how subtitles are processed using eye tracking and other methods

What is it about?

In this article I give an overview of studies that have looked at the way viewers look at subtitles or captions. I evaluate recent studies in terms of methodology, and focus specifically on studies using eye tracking in an attempt to understand how viewers divide their attention between text and image, and how they read subtitles in a dynamic audiovisual text.
