What is it about?
The aim of the study is to present a methodology of joint translatological-sociological cooperation in data collection, analysis, and interpretation in the area of translation strategies developed as a part of ongoing research on norms of literary translation from English to Czech in the time period 2000-2016. In order to identify norms, research cannot be restricted to translations – it is imperative to cover translators and their practice as well. That is why the key research methods are textual analyses and semistructured interviews. The connection of these two methods allows for a fusion of the observable results of translation practice with both translators’ social contextualisation and their reflection of practice (doxa). The latter is supposed to answer the questions: How do translators do it, why do they do it the way they do, and what do they really do when translating? and it was approached by designing the presented methodology.
