What is it about?

This is a review of a book that strikes all the right chords, sounds political and postmodern, and goes nowhere.

Why is it important?

Translation Studies in the US belongs to Comparative Literature and perhaps some Cultural Studies. It thus dismisses European Translation Studies as being concerned with no more than "accuracy". But it thereby condemns itself to reproducing orthodox ideologies, without an empirical component, and with some truly shocking methodological blunders.
