Diatopic variation in specialized fixed expressions

What is it about?

Starting from the hypothesis that each dialectal variety translates the idiosyncrasy of the different cultures, we discuss the variation of specialized phraseological units of Peninsular Spanish (EP) and Venezuelan Spanish (EV) in judgments on appeals in civil matters. The following work briefly presents the legal orders, compares the superstructures of the judgments, extracts and compares the specialized fixed expressions, in the light of corpus linguistics, to detect their similarities and differences.

Why is it important?

This analysis demonstrates : (1) the existence of lexical variations both within a variety of Spanish and between two varieties of Spanish (2) Venezuelan Spanish has more synonymous formulations with respect to the requesting party and (3) the uses of specialized fixed expressions differ among lawyers who assist the parties involved and intervene during the proceedings.
