A corpus-driven exploration of U.S. language planning and language ideology from 2013 to 2018

What is it about?

A corpus linguistic analysis of approximately 30,000 U.S. legislative bills running from 2013 to 2018. We use empirical methods to uncover patterns of language planning, and the ideologies that motivate them.

Why is it important?

This article contributes (1) to the use of large corpora analysis in the field of Language Policy & Planning, and (2) exposes consistent patterns of discriminatory ideologies within legislation that can be linked to other actors, corpora, and contexts.
