Racist discourse in films

What is it about?

This article examined how racist discourse is reconstructed in films. The neofascist characters studied frequently used racial slurs and directives. Immigrants were presented as a threat to white rights, jobs and public safety and modern cities were perceived by racist speakers as dystopic. It was also found that xenophobia and antisemitism intersected with gender-related bias.

Why is it important?

Although the language of extreme nationalism has been a topic of interest to many researchers, little research exists on the cinematic representation of racism.
