A reading test at the highest level of the Common European Framework of Reference (C-level)

What is it about?

The choice for a separate reading test is in accordance with the CEFR that differentiates between understanding, speaking and writing and follows the 'divisible competence' hypothesis. The reading test presented here is moreover a direct proficiency test, showing how good testees' actual reading competence is, independent of other language skills. The choice for text+multiple choice questions as an optimal test format is explained. Important considerations concerning text selection, level of difficulty and types of m.c. questions are extensively dealt with.

Why is it important?

Fortunately this type of reading comprehension test has been very well received and was part of the official test for the Certificate for Dutch as a Foreign Language
