A new rating scale for trainee interpreters

What is it about?

The rating scale discussed in this study could help assessors to determine levels of performance in a less subjective way, allow for differential weighting, prevent the halo effect and provide individual assessees with immediate and easy-to-understand diagnostic information.

Why is it important?

There has been little work on how an instrument for interpreter performance assessment (IPA) can actually be developed in practical terms. The present study attempts to address this need, by reporting on the process of developing an analytic scale for assessing undergraduate students’ consecutive interpreting performances.
