Gesture, vocalization, and vocabulary development in Peruvian children

What is it about?

In this work we examine gesture production and early communication in Peruvian children aged 8-15 months old employing data from MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories for Peruvian Spanish, in the first such study with Peruvian children. We also focus on the pointing gesture development and track its evolutive trajectory through both hand and finger pointing.

Why is it important?

It´s the first such study carried out with Peruvian children, a non WEIRD population. Data was collected through the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories adaptation for Peruvian Spanish.
